The secondary education master’s program at Saint Joseph’s offered me a faculty that care, administrators that care… it’s more like a family than being in school – I was not a number.
[MUSIC PLAYING] KIA LOCKMAN: I chose to attend Saint Joseph's University because of tradition. Tradition and the fact that Saint Joe's is one of the oldest universities in the Philadelphia area.
It allowed me the flexibility to take care of everything that I needed to take care of. And still give me the chance to pursue my education, and to pursue a goal that's been one of my goals since about 12th grade in high school.
This program at Saint Joe's really offered me faculty who cared, administrators who cared. And it felt more like a family than being in school. I wasn't a number.
One of the most vivid things I remember is one of my classmates, he taught in a Louisiana school, in New Orleans. He laid his experiences out in detail in [INAUDIBLE]. And it helped me to realize some kids are the same everywhere, but some areas really need the teachers who come from Saint Joe's OAT Cert program.
The most rewarding thing for me was being able to find a job immediately after the program. Outside of that, the most rewarding portion of attending the OAT Cert program has been developing a network of friends and associates who are there to help you along the way.
