I started out as a part-time classroom student in a traditional setting and it was just too much to juggle. When the opportunity arose to take an online program at Saint Joseph’s University, I jumped at it.
[MUSIC PLAYING] BETHANNE MASCIO: I knew that I wanted to kind of go to a Jesuit institution, whether or not it was the best out of everywhere that I looked. That was, like, what I was still exploring. And when I visited St. Joe's I felt that it was just a great fit. I actually started out as a part-time classroom student in a traditional classroom setting. And with my schedule of working full-time and just life, it got to be too much. And so when the opportunity arose to take online courses, I definitely jumped at it.
I really enjoyed the faculty at St. Joe's because they put themselves out there for you. Because you're not in a traditional face-to-face setting, you're not meeting one another every week. They make themselves very available.
I have found myself reaching out and saying, can I call you? What time is good for you? And then, them responding with here's my home phone, here's my office phone. Whatever you need. And then spending an hour on the phone talking through a project that I'm working on, weighing the pros and cons of taking on different viewpoints in an assignment.
I would recommend St. Joseph's University because it's a great program, especially coming from the Philadelphia area. There's a lot of St. Joseph's alumni in the area. And you're always going to meet someone who went to St. Joe's and remembers their time on Hawk Hill. And even though I didn't go here for undergrad, I definitely feel that sort of camaraderie even through online classes.
