Why I Chose SJU to Earn My MS Degree in Health Administration

My search for a school that met all my requirements required thorough research and several interviews with admissions coordinators. Ultimately, these led me to SJU. My professional goals are to be a health care leader with a focus on informatics. I have spent my entire adult life in health care. For the past 20 years, I have worked my way through the nursing field and am comfortable with operations, finances, regulations, and education.

A Passion for Health Care Technology

During the last 10 years, the hospital where I work adopted many new health care technologies ranging from a new Electronic Medical Record to continuous patient monitoring in ambulatory patients to smart rooms. My passion is healthcare technology. SJU’s classes have allowed me to bring my real-life experiences to the classroom and share them with others. I have also been able to expand my knowledge and use it on a daily basis. I have gained theoretical background that allows me to understand the rationale for how and why certain decisions are made.

Why Online Learning Works Best for Me

SJU offered a perfect balance to further my education in health care leadership and informatics. The online program works perfectly for my lifestyle and the class offerings continue to provide me with a breadth of learning that I was not able to find at other institutions. As a busy dad with three kids (two of whom are involved in sports that require a lot of travel), I knew that I would not be able to participate in a traditional classroom setting to complete my graduate studies.

The online option works perfectly for me. I can access readings, complete assignments, and even participate in online discussions as long as I have my laptop. In fact, I completed one discussion (collaborate session) from my car while waiting for my daughter’s team practice to finish. The online method of learning works best for SJU’s offerings and me are perfect. This format allows me to balance my personal life, career, and educational endeavors while I complete the required readings, reflecting, writings, and peer collaboration.

Current, Relevant, and Qualified

Prior to applying for the program, I was able to not only review the objectives of the classes, but also research some of the professors – all of whom were current, relevant, and qualified to facilitate their classes. Further, SJU is a well-respected institution and shares the values that I hold personally.

I look forward to being an SJU grad and will use my learnings to advance healthcare, be proactive in providing quality care for patients, promote population health, and innovate new technological advances in an effort to coordinate care in an efficient manner.

SJU offers all that I need in a graduate program and I am very happy with my choice.
