Kathleen M. Vavala is Disciplinary Counsel for the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware. Prior to that appointment, she served as a Deputy Attorney General for the Delaware Department of Justice for eleven years during which she served as a member of Delaware’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, prosecuting global qui tam litigation, as well as complex provider fraud, assault, abuse, neglect and financial exploitation cases. During her tenure at the DOJ, Ms. Vavala was also appointed to head the DOJ Family Division Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Elder Abuse Unit and the DOJ Criminal Division Felony Screening Unit.
Previously, Ms. Vavala was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Vincent A. Bifferato, Resident Judge of the Delaware Superior Court and was associated with the Wilmington, Delaware law firm of Tybout, Redfearn & Pell, concentrating in medical malpractice defense. Ms. Vavala has been a member of the Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey state bars for 22 years. She is a graduate of the Delaware Law School where she was a member of the Law Review and Franklin & Marshall College where she was a Spalding Fellow. Ms. Vavala also teaches as an adjunct professor at Delaware Law School and is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars in the areas of professional ethics, health care law and criminal law.
