Kathleen Maria Vavala, Esquire BA English/Government, Juris Doctor

Kathleen M. Vavala, Esquire is currently Disciplinary Counsel for the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware.  Previously she served as a Deputy Attorney General for the Delaware Department of Justice for eleven years.  As a member of Delaware’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Ms. Vavala prosecuted global qui tam litigation, as well as complex provider fraud, assault, abuse, neglect and financial exploitation cases. Later she was appointed Head of the Family Division Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Elder Abuse Unit during which she supervised the prosecution of all domestic violence, child physical abuse and elder abuse crimes statewide, including homicides. 

Following that post, Ms. Vavala became the Criminal Division Felony Screening Unit Head for New Castle County.  Ms. Vavala is a graduate of the Delaware Law School of Widener University and Franklin & Marshall College.  She clerked for the Honorable Vincent A. Bifferato, Resident Judge of the Delaware Superior Court and has been a member of the Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey state bars for twenty years.  Ms. Vavala is also an adjunct professor at Delaware Law School and is a frequent lecturer at Continuing Legal Education seminars in the areas of professional ethics, criminal law and health care law.
