The online Master of Science in Business Intelligence & Analytics (MSBIA) at Saint Joseph’s University – one of the first Business Intelligence & Analytics master’s degree offered entirely online – is designed and delivered by those at the center of the Business Intelligence and Analytics industry. You can choose from one of four career-enriching tracks: General Track, Data Analytics, Cyber Analytics, or Data Science.
The terms “business intelligence” and “business analytics” are sometimes used interchangeably despite having different definitions. Thomas Davenport1, professor of information technology and management at Babson College, argues that business intelligence should be divided into querying, reporting, online analytical processing (OLAP), an “alerts” tool, and business analytics. In other words, business analytics is a subset of business intelligence that focuses on statistics, prediction, and optimization, rather than the reporting functionality.
Global revenue in the business intelligence and analytics market was forecast to reach $16.9 billion in 2016, an increase of 5.2 percent from 2015,2 according to the latest forecast from Gartner, Inc.
It is estimated that by 2018, there will be a shortage of 1.5 million analysts and managers for available positions.3
The master’s in business intelligence program is taught within the AACSB-accreditation Erivan K. Haub School of Business. The MSBIA program houses the International Journal of Business Intelligence Research, a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to exchanging the latest research and practical findings on all aspects of managing business intelligence and analytics in organizations. This allows students to work closely with faculty and staff at the center of the BI industry.
Graduates of the business intelligence and analytics graduate program at Saint Joseph’s University also receive a Business Intelligence Certificate from SAS, Inc., a credential that further distinguishes students and differentiates them from their colleagues.

Cyber analytics can be viewed as situated at the intersection of Big Data, Cyber Security, and Decision Management. Our program provides students with an exposure to Analytics of Cyber-Physical Systems, which are ubiquitous in business/industry contexts.
Data Analytics: designed to prepare students to apply data analytics techniques to large data sets to support data-driven decisions across application domains. The courses are designed for learners with a quantitative background who want to advance their skills. You’ll learn statistical and scientific methods for data analysis that prepare you to make sound, evidence-based decisions that drive business performance in any function.
Data Science: Within business intelligence, an understanding of at least one programming language makes an impressive addition to any resume. In this track, you will learn about closed source and open source programming languages which are critical to success in the field of business intelligence and analytics.
General / Traditional: prepares professionals to drive organizational performance in all function areas (analytics, database support, programming, decision making, data visualization, etc.) This track gives students well rounded skills that allow them to become leaders within their teams, departments and organizations.
