The Wilson Reading certification program is made up of four courses that cover the fundamentals of the Wilson Reading System®. Successful completion of SPE 710, 711, 712, and 713, and all WRS requirements, results in WRS Standard/Level I certification, which can lead to new career opportunities or simply help you teach your students literacy skills more effectively.

Coursework focuses on strategies for addressing and overcoming a variety of fluency and comprehension deficits, including learning disabilities. If you decide to further your education in this area, you can take another 9 courses to earn a master’s in special education with your Wilson Reading System® certification.

Tuition for this program is $780 per credit hour, plus an additional $325 in Wilson fees per course.

Student Teaching and Field Experience
The PA Department of Education requires all teacher candidates to complete field experience competencies in certification programs. The Special Education Department at Saint Joseph’s University has designated activities in each course in the required curriculum to meet the state standards.
