Criminal Justice Programs

Sylvia M DeSantis, M.A., holds a BA from Villanova University and an MA from VA Tech. She is former Program Manager for the Justice and Safety Institute (JASI) at Penn State University where she developed and managed online training programs for justice-related training, child support enforcement (CSE) social workers across the Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Child Support Enforcement Training Institute (PACSETI), and the Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriffs' Training Academy.

One of the first instructors at VA Tech to teach online as part of the Virginia Tech CyberSchool in the mid-90s, Ms. DeSantis has been an e-learning consultant for 20 years with experience in online program management, interaction and instructional design, and multimedia program development, and has acted as Principal Investigator on Dept of Education (DOE) and Dept of Health and Human Services (DHHS) grants developing multimedia for at-risk and underserved populations. She has been teaching, writing, and publishing for two decades, with publications covering all genres and venues including professional trade journals, encyclopedias, popular magazines, and commercial anthologies. In 2011 Ms. DeSantis published two books: Watercharms: Ocean-Reiki Meditations (Schiffer Publications, 2011) and Academic Apartheid (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2011), an anthology of international essays that study the issue of rankism inherent to those on the fringes of academia.
